Home hero Gregory Wathelet aboard the promising 10 years old stallion MJT Nevados (Calvados Z) achieved a popular home win in yesterday’s Grand Prix at CSI4* Liège.
In front of the full stands, six riders managed to stay clear, two of them home representatives, to advance to the shortened track where Colombia’s dayro Arroyave and Alicante (Casall) had an unlucky rail down just as Germany’s Katharina Offel and Leasure Z (Treasure Z). Brazil’s pedro Junqueira Muylaerts and Prince Royal de Revel (Prince de Revel) jumped the first double clear to take the lead but would settle for third as Belgium’s Dominique Hendrickx in the saddle of Koriano van Klapscheut (Lord Z) bested their time by almost four seconds. But the last to give the track a chance, Grefgory Wathelet and Nevados, would set the crowd on fire by stopping the clock in 33’79 to claim the win in front of their ecstatic crowd.
