The 7-year-olds jumped over a 1.40m course, and it was Omer Karaevli (TUR) on Hayley (Carembar de Muze x Balou du Rouet) who topped the ranks with a double clear result in 39.17 seconds.
“I think it was a good class, nicely built with a technical course and a fast jump-off,” Karaevli commented afterwards. “I did really sharp turns, all the inside turns that were possible. I think I was the only one who did all that, I was not so fast on the long distances – but the turns really made the difference,” the Turkish rider told about his jump-off.
“I have actually bred Hayley myself, and I hope for a great future with her – this is going to be my future Grand Prix horse,” Omer said about his winning mount. “I rode her grandmother at the European Championships at Windsor, and her father is Glock’s London – or Carembar de Muze as he is also known. I think this one will be a super star, and she won already a lot.”
Speaking about the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour, Omer said: “It is a beautiful place, it is my first time here. I must say that I really love it and will try to come more often. The quality of the surfaces is really good, the fences, the course building and the timing as well – and there is plenty of space to ride your horses.”
Following behind Karaevli in the 7-year-old final, Maxime Harmegnies (BEL) on Carlina d’Argouges (Lando x Socrates de Chivre) took the runner-up position with a time of 39.44 seconds, while Anthony Condon (IRL) on Chic du Rouet (Ogano Sitte x Quaprice Boimargot Quincy) placed third. Jane Annett (GBR) on Cliasira BH (Chacco-Blue x Sandro Boy) placed fourth and the fifth spot went to Efe Siyahi (TUR) on Drago G.S. (Darco x Corrado I).
Harold Boisset (FRA) on Dame de Lassos (L’Arc de Triomphe x Jalienny) and Thierry Goffinet (BEL) on Enola Gay of Two Notes Z (Emerald Van’T Ruytershof x Chin Chin) tied for the runner-up position after they both clocked a time of 30.23 seconds. Ivan Dalton (IRL) on Copa du Cache Pot Z (Cooper vd Heffinck x Calypso d’Herbiers) placed fourth and Thierry Goffinet (BEL) on Hurlevent DB (Copin van de Broy x Diamant de Semilly) fifth.
In the 5-year-old division, jumped over a course set to the height of 1.15m, it was another Irish win as Susan Fitzpatrick (IRL) on CBI Victory (Vittorio x Diamant de Semilly) took the top honours with a time of 35.36 seconds. Bethanie Knight (GBR) on Julius (breeding unknown) got close, but had to settle for the runner-up position with her time of 35.57. Megan James (GBR) on Jamaica EBH (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Ukato) placed third, Taizo Sugitani (JPN) on Jarley (breeding unknown) placed fourth and the fifth spot went to Paul Kennedy (IRL) on UC Blue Rose (Plot Blue x breeding unknown).
